Lithology and Thickness
The lower part of the Chumkartau Fm (19-117 m) consists of clayey and sandy limestones, with layers of gravelites, clay shales, sandstones.
The upper part of this suite (100 m), which is characterized by fewer coarse clastic rocks, belongs to the Lower Devonian and is divided into Shishkat, Kshut, and Pandzhrud layers (Shevchenko, 1966; Lavrusevich, 1968).

Regional extent
They are widespread in the southern part of the Turkestan region in the valley of the Zeravshan River.

In the lower part, Favosites lazutkini Tchern., Squameofavosites tchortangensis Chekh., Syringopora ferganensis Fom., Gyalophyllum angelini Wdkd., Rhizophyllum gotlandicum Roemer, Mucophyllum crateroides Ether., Strombodes sokolovi Lavrus., Lissatrypa columbella (Barr.), Conchidium knighti Sow., and others (Lavrusevich, 1968). In the upper part, Favosites clarus Yanet, Favosites brusnitzini Peetz, Barrandeophyllum perplexum Barr., Spongophyllum halysitoides Ether., Lyrielasma chapmani Pedder, Camarotoechia famula Barr., Stegerhynchus cf.; nympha (Barr.), Cymostrophia stephani (Barr.), Karpinskia conjugula Tschern., Monograptus hercynicus Perner, and others.
